1. The palace consists of stunning pagodas and architecture, all covered in either gold or extremely intricate sculptures and patterns that will make your jaw drop. No time to read? So, no tank top and shorts for you here. So, if you don’t have any, you will be forced to buy one from the shops across the street. They used to let you rent long pants, but not anymore. It is quite a sight to behold. Thailand is rich in history that not many people know about. There are 3 permanent exhibitions spread across over 15 exhibition halls, so you will need at least an hour or 2 to walk through them all. The place is never closed, even on public holidays, unless it’s during a renovation or a pandemic. They are all interesting, in my opinion, and should give you loads of fascinating facts and stories of how we came to be. 4. It serves as a great point of interest for travelers to watch the sunset at one of the many riverside restaurants nearby. 5. As it is a small temple, it should take you around 30 minutes to visit. 7. It is one of the best sunset spots in the area as it offers a stunning 360° panoramic view over the city.
Jerry promptly met us in our hotel reception at the appointed time. He even rang the night before to check we would be ready. The smell of the area was soon forgotten once we started to spot the unusual fish and food and vast numbers of flowers on display. The car we had was clean. A short hop over the river and we were met, as if by magic, and with out any fuss by 3 rickshaws with drivers, one for each of us. We were then driven around the small area where the fishermen lived, followed by a our own opportunity to have a go at riding the trike, the guys must have strong legs as we only managed to go about 10 meters and nearly drove the thing off the road! All our transport just appeared by magic. The market has to be the most ridiculous sight we’ve ever seen. The train really does go right through the centre of it.

Over the produce laid right up to the track. The stall holders pull back their canopies just as the train approaches with seconds to spare. The moment the train has passed through, the canopies go back and the stalls pushed back to the train tracks, absolutely crackers! Once inside the market you’d never know you’re walking on a train track. We love foreign markets as you are treated to unusual smells, sights and experiences, they’re great for photos too. Have you been there? He even showed us his skills in tree climbing! This place was a feast for the eyes – cooked and raw frogs, pink eggs, ladies despatching eels, to name a few! It’s a bit of an early start, but well worth the effort. Make a plan of how you are going to get from one place to another. Usually croweded with worshippers, dancers and incense. We only just had enough.
